When an intimate toy stops working, the problem usually falls into one of a handful of categories: power, charging, Bluetooth pairing, or app connectivity. Each has a short checklist. Work through the section that matches your problem and you will solve most issues in a few minutes without needing to contact support.
Start by confirming the battery is actually charged. A fully depleted battery sometimes will not cause an indicator light to activate immediately when you plug in - leave it connected for 15-20 minutes and try the power button again. The charging indicator light may take a moment to appear on a fully drained device.
Check that the charging cable is fully seated. Magnetic connectors need to align precisely to make contact - if the connection is slightly off, the device draws no power even when it looks plugged in. Try repositioning the connector and confirm the indicator light activates. If you have another cable available, try that too, since cable faults are more common than device faults.
Travel lock is the most commonly overlooked cause of a toy that will not turn on. Travel lock mode disables all buttons so the toy cannot accidentally activate in luggage or a bag. To release it on most devices, hold the main power button for 5 or more seconds until the toy vibrates or the indicator light flashes a different pattern. The Velvet Vibes app also shows you whether travel lock is active and lets you toggle it from the device settings screen.
If the toy still does not respond after charging and releasing travel lock, perform a factory reset. Hold the power button for 10 seconds continuously - longer than a normal long-press - until you see a different indicator sequence. This clears any stuck state in the firmware and resolves most remaining turn-on issues.
First, check the charging port for moisture or debris. If you cleaned the toy recently and it has not fully dried, residual moisture in the charging area can interrupt the connection. Leave it to air dry for 30 minutes before trying again. A thin cotton swab can help clear visible debris from around the charging pins without damaging them.
Try a different power adapter. Many charging issues come from the adapter, not the device. USB chargers vary in output; use a standard 5V/1A adapter rather than a fast-charge adapter, which can behave unexpectedly with lower-draw devices. A laptop USB port or a standard phone charger are both reliable options.
If the toy was in travel lock mode, it may also be in a charging-inhibited state. Release travel lock first, then reconnect the charger. Some firmware versions require the device to be unlocked before charging begins. Open the Velvet Vibes app, navigate to device settings, and confirm the device is not showing any lock state.
Toggle Bluetooth off and on again on your phone. This clears the Bluetooth stack of stale connection attempts and forces a fresh discovery scan. Open your phone's Bluetooth settings, turn it off, wait 10 seconds, turn it back on, and then open the Velvet Vibes app and tap the connect button. This solves the majority of Bluetooth pairing failures.
If that does not work, forget the device in your phone's Bluetooth settings and pair again from scratch. Go to your phone's Bluetooth menu, find the device in the paired list, tap "Forget" or "Unpair," and then follow the in-app pairing process as if it were the first time. The Velvet Vibes app will guide you through putting the toy into pairing mode.
Bluetooth Low Energy devices like these can only maintain a stable connection to one phone at a time. If the toy was previously paired to a different phone and that device is nearby - a partner's phone, a second device you use - it may have connected to that device automatically. Turn off Bluetooth on any other nearby phones and retry pairing to your primary device.
On Android devices, Bluetooth Low Energy connections require Location permission to function. This is an Android system requirement tied to how BLE scanning works, not something specific to the Velvet Vibes app. Open your phone's app settings, find Velvet Vibes, check the permissions section, and confirm Location is enabled. Without this permission, BLE discovery fails silently and the app will appear to scan without finding anything.
This happens when the app has a stale connection state - it believes it is connected to the device, but the actual Bluetooth session has dropped without the app registering the disconnect. Force-close the Velvet Vibes app completely rather than just backgrounding it. On iOS, swipe up from the home bar and swipe the app off the screen. On Android, use the recent apps view to swipe it away. Then reopen the app and reconnect.
If the toy is showing as connected in the Velvet Vibes app but also appears as "Connected" in your phone's main Bluetooth settings, the connection is likely split across two sessions. Disconnect from the main Bluetooth settings first, then let the Velvet Vibes app handle the full connection on its own. The app manages BLE sessions differently from the system Bluetooth menu, and using both simultaneously causes conflicts.
Distance matters more than people expect with Bluetooth. The specification range is typically 10 metres in open air, but walls, bodies, and other wireless devices reduce this significantly. If you are using the toy in another room from your phone, move them within 2-3 metres of each other and retest. Once the connection stabilises, you can increase distance gradually.
Latency during long-distance sessions is network latency, not Bluetooth latency. When you and your partner are in different locations, the control signal travels from your phone through the internet to your partner's phone, and only then the final hop goes from their phone via Bluetooth to the device. The Bluetooth portion of this journey takes about 10-20ms. The internet portion - depending on your connection, your partner's connection, and the route between them - typically adds 150-500ms.
A delay of 200-400ms is normal and expected for long-distance app-controlled play. This is similar to the latency of a standard video call. Most people adjust to it quickly because the experience is not trying to sync precisely to a visual cue the way a video game would be.
To minimise latency, both people should be on Wi-Fi rather than mobile data where possible. Wi-Fi connections typically offer lower and more stable latency than cellular. Avoid using the feature on congested networks - shared hotel Wi-Fi or a mobile connection on a crowded network will produce more delay and more variation in delay than a stable home connection.
If latency feels unacceptably high, check whether either phone is in a low-power or battery-saver mode, which can throttle background network activity. Disable battery saver for the Velvet Vibes app specifically in your phone's settings, then retest.
Motor power is directly tied to battery level. A device at 20% battery delivers noticeably less vibration intensity than the same device at 100%. If the toy feels weaker than it did when you first used it, charge it fully and test again before assuming anything is wrong with the motor.
Also check where you have the intensity set in the Velvet Vibes app versus the physical buttons. On devices with both app control and physical buttons, the two can get out of sync - you might be at intensity level 3 via the app when you expect level 8. Open the app during use to confirm the intensity setting it is actually sending to the device.
If the motor still feels weak after a full charge and confirmed intensity settings, perform a factory reset by holding the power button for 10 seconds. Corrupted settings occasionally cause the device to behave as though it is at a lower intensity than commanded. A reset clears these and returns the device to default behaviour.
All Velvet Rituals devices carry a 180-day warranty from the date of purchase, covering manufacturing defects and functional failures under normal use. If your device develops a fault within that window - a motor that stops working, a charging port that fails without obvious physical damage, a button that stops responding - the warranty covers repair or replacement.
To claim warranty, contact Velvet Rituals support through the website with your order details and a description of the problem. You may be asked to share a short video of the issue. Response times are typically 1-2 business days, and the team will advise on whether a replacement is appropriate or whether a specific fix might resolve the issue first.
Physical damage - drops, cracks, water damage on a device that is not rated for submersion, or damage from using incompatible chargers - falls outside warranty coverage. If you are unsure whether your issue is a warranty matter or physical damage, contact support with a description and they can advise before you go through the claims process.
