Water-based lubricant is the most widely recommended type for good reason: it works with every toy material, every condom type, and cleans up with water alone. But "water-based" is not a single product - it is a category that spans everything from beautifully balanced formulas that mimic natural secretions to sticky, osmolality-disrupting products that can leave vaginal tissue more irritated than before.
